New Poll: ARMlet Development
Originally, PalmSource wasn't going to open up ARM development at all for Palm OS 5, only supporting application written for the 68K processor. Fortunately, they opened up a hole in the PACE 68K emulator, and now let developers run real ARM code from their traditional 68K-based applications.
Most applications won't need to use this, but it can provide real benefits for some. Currently, with no ARM-based hardware available on the market, it is not possible for developers to test ARMlets, although they can do some early testing using the Palm OS Simulator and DLLs (see my article on x86Lets).
So, does this sound intriguing to you, or are you going to just stick with 68K development in the short-term? Will you wait for the next OS after OS 5 before starting down the ARM path? Do you think your programs will need the extra speed, or would your time be better spent working on some other programming problem?
By the way, thanks for all the responses on the last poll. I really like doing these, so you can expect to see a new one every few weeks.
