8.2 Patch Update, Handheld Computing Developer

I've got a few story ideas I might write up this weekend, so stay tuned. In the meantime, two news bits.

First, the CodeWarrior for Palm OS 8.2 patch has finally been sent to the Metrowerks web team for posting. It should appear on the Metrowerks download site on Monday, with versions for both Mac OS and Windows. This is a big patch, fixing an array of compiler, linker, runtime library, and debugger issues we've found in the last few months. This patch applies, even if you've just purchased CodeWarrior for Palm OS V8, Enterprise Edition, since we found some problems after that CD was already pressed.

I'm sorry it took so long to get out. There probably will be a couple more small patches to V8 in the next month or two. There is a known compiler bug affecting constructing arrays of objects which was fixed after the 8.2 compiler was finalized, and we're looking at the USB debugger problems some people are having with Palm's latest devices, the m130 and m515.

Handheld Computing Developer

Handheld Computing Developer is a new monthly electronic newsletter being put out by the publishers of Handheld Computing magazine. Metrowerks is the sponsor of the first issue, which went online this week. There are several good articles in this first issue by some familiar names. Greg Winton has the first installment of an application development series, Glenn Bachmann writes about using VFS, and Mike McCollister has an article about things that annoy him in program user interfaces.
