The Future of CodeWarrior
I talked to the Atlanta Palm Developers Group last night. They're a good bunch, with a lot of programming expertise. There were several requests that CW already handled that I was able to show the group, like using the debugger to "run to cursor" and "move the program counter". They also provided some feedback on future IDE and toolset features. I wanted to list some of them, in the hopes that this will spawn more ideas.
- Screen capture from the device
- Debugger dashboard showing free memory on the various heaps and stack
- Display databases and programs installed on the device
- Support for breakpoints invoking scripts
- Keyboard emulation (debugger puts keypresses into the key queue)
- Command-line tools
- Fix bug where IDE crashes if its doing a build when NT's screensaver activates
- Integrated version of Palm Reporter for logging in debug runs
- C++ class library with comphrehensive documentation
- Installer support for Palm OS applications and conduits
We're actively planning features and engineering schedules for CW Palm 9 and an Enterprise editition right now, so let me know if you have any other suggestions or a big peeve with the current tools.
