Palm OS Dev FAQ

Launch day is over!

Yesterday, we officially launched CodeWarrior for Palm OS version 8, the first one with which I was directly involved. I'm really greatful for the support I got from my other team members, on the engineering, marketing, production, and management sides.

Palm InfoCenter had a story about the launch. I posted the "changed" mentioned here and answered a lot of questions about the product.

I'm going to be doing the first public demonstration of V8 next Tuesday at the October meeting of the Atlanta Palm Developers Group (AtlPDG). I'll be showing off its new features and also going into detail on expanded mode. I might even talk some about some ideas I have for hosting custom controls, allowing for a new kind of Palm OS code reuse.

POSE 3.4

Keith Rollin, of Palm OS Emulator fame, reports on palm-dev that POSE 3.4 will have memory leak detection. Here's a quote from his message:

Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 14:50:16 -0700
From: Keith Rollin
Subject: RE: verify no memory leaks exist

FYI, Poser 3.4 will have memory leak facilities. It will track each allocation and de-allocation. When an application exits and there are chunks that have not been de-allocated, Poser will write information concerning them to a log file, including the chunk's location, a sample of its contents, and a stack crawl of the context that allocated the chunk.

There are other POSE 3.4 features being leaked that make it look like a major step forward for Palm OS development. Be on the lookout for something called "gremlin minimization".
