I think I'd like to start a little meme in the Palm OS community among us software developers. What if once a week, say every Friday, we all went out, found a cool Palm OS program we liked, and purchased it from the author. With many apps in the vicinity of $10, this wouldn't be a big burden, and you'd be supporting another developer. If you couldn't afford to buy something, sending a nice thank you note to an author of a freeware program you use would also be acceptable. I think this would be a good gesture of support for developers, especially newer ones who might just have their first application out on the market.

Yesterday, I went registered AcidSolitaire and AcidImage, from Red Mercury. I just got a CLIE T615C, and their hi-res applications were pretty compelling. If there's no app you've been using unregistered for months or weeks, why not cruise the new app listings at PalmGear. I'm amazed by the number of programs popping up these days.

Quartus RsrcEdit

By the way, Quartus, the company that brought you Quartus Forth and Benchmark, recently bought the rights to RsrcEdit, the really cool application that runs on your device and lets you inspect all of the on-device databases, including your programs. I'm going to write a big review of this soon in a Stuff I Like article, but I wanted to pass on the good news.

Update 1 Pulled?

It may just be a glitch, but it looks like PalmSource has removed 4.0 SDK Update 1 from their SDK web pages. It is only speculation, but reports indicated that the new PalmRez post-linker component in the update had a corruption bug that affected bitmaps that were not a multiple of 8 pixels wide. Maybe they're getting this bug fixed so they can repost the update.
