The January 2003 issue of Palm TipSheet just was posted, and it features an article on Palm OS 5 devices that I wrote. If you've not had a chance to work with the new devices, its worth a read to see what's new.

My article is online at the Palm TipSheet website.

Issues with PilRC Designer

We bundled PilRC Designer, from Falch.net, with the V9 product for people developing apps using PilRC format resources. However, the application shipped with a few bugs.

Here's a list of bug fixes we've already received from the developer that will be part of the 9.1 patch.

  • When calculating AUTO heights for fields, zero is no longer returned due to the lack of text property in a field
  • When calculating PREVLEFT/TOP etc. for controls, POPUPLISTs are not used when looking for previous components
  • FORMBITMAP object now adds BITMAPFAMILYEX to its pulldown
  • SEPARATORS are parsed correctly when containing an ID. The ID is also available in the property explorer
  • The min width of the property explorer/control palette and the min height for the message view is now limited to 50. This is done both when reading in old values (so that people with a zero value will get their windows resized correctly), and when moving them with the resize splitters.

If you're seeing PilRC Designer crash on startup, please let us know. We know of a couple of cases of this happening, and we're trying to gather information on the problem to forward to the developers. If you see any other strange bahavior, please let us know too.
